Day two

Here’s a rundown of day 2:

  • Joined Devin and Celia on their morning walk through St. Katherine’s docks and into downtown.
  • Walked past Battersea park and around Chelsea and found Carlos & Cythia’s old flat.  Saw some interesting art along the way including a buddha and what appeared to be a boy holding onto a dolphin.  Just too weird not to photograph.  Also a guy walking what must have been 6 or 7 dogs.  Stumbled on a neat little nursery with some cool landscape drawings.  The area is called World’s End and seems to include some self-referential humor including a clock with crazy numbering going backwards.  Not that I know New York much, but Chelsea strikes me as Brooklyn might be to Manhattan- slightly more laid back, down-to-earth version of London.
  • Went to Westminster area after some major student demonstrations yesterday over tuition increases- lots of shattered glass.  There were protesters in other areas including a guy being dragged behind a stagecoach that appeared to be some kind of activist stunt.  The Boston Globe has an article with pictures of what went on yesterday.
  • Stopped through the British museum briefly and walked around the Bloomsbury area including a neat little comic shop and some cool wall art at a construction area.  By this point my knees were hurting from all the walking, so I went home and caught a few pictures of buildings and the tower of London on the way home.
Later I joined Devin in his distinctly English gym- they fit a lot more in a small area.
  • Met Devin & Celia and went out with friends Tom, Steph, Alexis, and Dan.  (someone please correct me if I got someone’s name wrong!)  It was an American-influenced restaurant with a lot of vintage Hollywood movie art (among other things) on the wall.  Congratulations to Alexis and Dan, who just got engaged!
